  • Condition: These are vintage, circa late 1960s-early 1980s, about 40-50 years old. They’ve been stored indoors all this time, not in a garage or attic or cellar. I did have cats when I crocheted these, so there may be cat hair and dust/lint woven in. I noticed a slight musty smell when unpacking them. If they’d already been sewn together I would have washed it, but washing would fare better once it is sewn together unless you have one of those garment/mesh bags to wash delicates, which I don’t. Photos serve as part of description, and the color shades may vary from the photographs as the camera doesn’t always capture the exact shades, and your computer monitor may not show colors the same as mine does. The yarn needle is a bit rusty but steel wool might take that right off. Each square has the tie-off yarn sticking out, which you’d sew into the connector seam when sewing them together.

    Description

    Fifty-one (51) hand-crocheted granny squares, 8-rows each, approximately 8” x 8” square, in the style of Roseanne and Big Bang Theory (though they predate both and have more rows). Measurements for each square vary quite a bit for the variety of yarns used. But they can be sewn together just fine in spite of the variance. I sewed several together already (not part of this bundle) into a couch throw and it works. The outer row for each square is black, so you’d sew them together with black yarn unless you want to contrast.
    * 51 granny squares approximately 8” x 8” (8-row)
    * Size F crochet hook HERO
    * Yarn needle
    * Variety of never-used yarns
    I started this project in the late 1960s, and stopped around the mid-1980s. The original plan was to crochet a bedspread, but I never finished it. I originally had twice this many squares, but sewed 56 squares together and made a couch throw which measures approximately 58” x 67” (it is for sale separately, not part of this bundle, and not shown in these photos).
    I am including the crochet hook and yarn needle, being the exact ones I used for this. Plus a variety of yarns to make more granny squares, or if you wanted to sew it together using different colors. The yarns in the granny squares are of different types and thicknesses. When a yarn was a very thin ply I would twine two thin yarns together and use it as a single yarn.
    The resulting couch throw or afghan lap blanket that you make from these will be washable and dryable on delicate. I never used detergent to wash the one I already sewed, though I did use a bit of plain white vinegar sometimes, or just water.
    The unused skeins of yarn do include black, but not enough of it to sew this together. There is also a very dark blue that looks almost black in the loose yarns. Other colors in the loose yarns include creamy white, lavender, Christmas green, bright red, brown, yellow, burgundy, robin’s egg blue, cornflower blue, rose pink, pale pink, black, and multicolored yarns such as a brown/white yarn.
