    by famous
African Wildlife Artist Caroline Reel Schultz
    (1936-2004)
    .
On the vastness of the Serengeti Plain in Tanzania and in the valleys around Mt. Kenya
    in Kenya
, there are many scenes like
    "The King"
every day. Ms. Schultz presents this African Lion in charge, his
strength, pride, and great spirit all clearly evident.
    Renowned as
one of the finest African Wildlife Artists in the world
    , Ms. Schultz
    exhibited extensively
in her native Southern California, across the U.S., and abroad. She worked from her studio in the
Spanish Village in San Diego's famous Balboa Park
    . She had many
    one-woman shows and
    participated in
    major exhibitions.
    Ms. Schultz developed
a special and original artwork style that the
San Diego Union front page article in the Women's Section on January 9th, 1974, reported: "She doesn't aim for photographic type renderings but seeks to
recreate the feeling of the animals
and this feeling can best be sensed by
seeing the animal in its natural settings
    …"
    The artist
    received numerous
    honors and awards,
including the Humanitarian Award for assisting the
Pygmies of the Ituri Forest in the Congo
    "to
    preserve their forest home
, their unique culture, and above all their right to live with dignity". Ms. Schultz led
    over 20 safaris
    to
    South Africa,
    Central and
    East Africa,
    the
    Serengeti Plain
    and
    Mt. Kenya
. She served for many years as
U.S. Art Director for the East African Wildlife Society and often lectured
    on
    "Animal Anatomy"
    and
    "
Africa Through the Eyes of an Artist
    "
    .
The La Jolla Art Association observed: "(Ms. Schultz) has
    a special empathy
    for the
    mother animals and their young
." They quoted the artist herself saying: "As a woman and a mother, I deeply understand the
    God-given instinct and oneness
of creation and nature." Ms. Schultz was
a fine Fine Art Artist –
