New Dr Brewsters Ultimate Precision Kaleidoscope Kit by Van Cort Instruments. This hard to find Dr. Brewster's Ultimate Precision Kaleidoscope Kit is out of production. This kit is brand new in the box and in prefect shape. The items were never taken out of the bags, and the bags were only taken out of the box once for this photo. Of course it comes with the instruction sheet and everything that originally came with the box.
The kit is complete with parts and instructions for creating a 3-mirror kaleidoscope with front surface mirrors and solid brass end caps. The tube is card-board and comes with a thin wood covering. It is in its original box and in perfect mint condition. All items are in the original plastic bags. There is no shelf wear on the box cover as it has been kept safely. While kaleidoscopic images have been a fascination for centuries, it's generally accepted that the invention of the kaleidoscope, and it's first patent, belongs to Sir David Brewster (1781-1868). Brewster authorized several manufacturers of his scopes (Ruthven, Carpenter, Bancks) during his lifetime, but realized very little monetary gain from his invention. Sir David
Brewster, a Scottish scientist, patented in 1817. His invention was named after the Greek words, kalos or beautiful, eidos or form, and scopos or watcher. The meaning of Kaleidoscope is the beautiful form watcher. Brewster's kaleidoscope was a tube containing loose pieces of colored glass and other objects, reflected by mirrors or glass lenses set at angles that created patterns when viewed through the end of the tube.
