Goat Goes Round the World
A goat to give fresh milk was aboard
H.M.S. Dolphin when Captain Wallis
discovered the island Tahiti in
the South Pacific. Mist shrouded the
island as they dropped anchor. It
rose to reveal native canoes all
round. Warriors armed with clubs
swarmed aboard. It looked dangerous
until the goat butted a Tahitian
over the gunwale. Sight of that strange,
fierce creature was enough to scare
the other boarders over the side.
The goat went on to travel round the
world with Captain Wallis, and again
with Captain Cook in the Endeavour.
The Lords of the Admiralty awarded
her full pension rights to spend her
last days in Greenwich Naval Hospital.
