Description
Palestinian/Israeli Sterling Silver Egg-Form Spice Tower / Box - Pre-1948?JudaicPresented is a very nice quality sterling silver spice box made in the Middle East, likely in Palestine before 1948 or perhaps in the 1950s in Israel. The piece has very good construction and heavy weight. The spice tower is in the form of a fancy egg cup, with a hand chased base with a nice, decorative rim. The egg-form top sits on a palm-tree-style stem, and is topped with a palm-frond-form finial. Flower engravings decorate the lid, and a Hebrew inscription reads Creator of Different Types of Spices, which is the end of the Havdalah invocation said at the end of Shabbat: Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, Creator of different types of spices. A very nice quality piece!
The piece has two rectangular marks on the top of the base, but they are poorly struck and no longer visible. We have tested it with nitric acid and 100% guarantee it to be sterling silver purity.
The condition is excellent. There are no breaks, no cracks, no splits, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals and no repairs.
The spice box measures 5 5/8 inches tall and 2 3/4 inches in diameter.
The weight is 157.5 grams or 5.56 ounces.
